"Starving Daughters embraces the drawn-out, darker side of said BTS aesthetic (totally Perfect From Now On, dudes). Not only that, the quintet does it right—with plenty of twisting, swooning guitars and a tight, build-and-break rhythm section."
-Amy McCullough-Willamette Week
Starving Daughters is a psychedelic indie rock band from Glendora, CA. Formed in 2006 by singer/guitarist Chris Tilloston and guitarist Jack Hutchings, Starving daughters was initially a project with few goals adide from jamming with friends. But since Chris Holder, Mason Gypsy and Ben Engebretson were always drinking beer at Tilliston's run down Pomona, CA practice space anyway, they ended up joining and making a proper group of the duo.
Though Starving Daughters cite Pink Floyd, Built to Spill, Pavement, and Wu-Tang Clan as influences, their style and delivery is distinct. Tilloston's ethereal vocals along with Hutchings' manic leads and Engebretson's keys create the transcendent noisescapes while Holder and Gypsy hold down a hardlined bottom end.
After a couple beautifully disastrous live shows (one involving a bowling alley, a very drunk Hutchings and a crew of frat rockers) the Daughters have finished a 6 song EP Such Buds.Loving Empire has released this self-produced work in a limited silk-screened edition of 500 (with art by Rusty Jordan). A Summer/Fall 2007 tour is in the works, as well as regular shows in the Southern California area. Click below to see if they're coming to your neck of the suburbs any time soon.
