Finn Riggins

The long awaited debut full length
from one of America's hardest working bands at the apex of their abilities. Finn Riggins continues to prove why they've kept rock critics guessing during their 150+ live shows during the past year. A Soldier, A Saint, An Ocean Explorer is no exception, melding synthy, stoney, crunchy and poppy with inventive progressions and uncommon time signatures and downright weird sounds (bugs, toys, binary chanting etc.) From the opening growl of Glove Comprtmnt to the final ghostly strains of A President, A Pacifist, An Auto Restorer, Finn Riggins is burning down the U.S. two ears at a time. "A Solider, A Saint, An Ocean Explorer is both a bright and lively record stocked with odd time changes and dynamic song structures as it stutters along with a swagger, a devil-may-care grin and an affection for the unconventional.... an exhaustive debut that spans multiple genres with ease and rare proficiency."
-Matt Kiser - CMJ.com

"...there are psychedelic keyboard breakdowns and alternately spastic and smooth guy/girl vocals mixed all through the band's debut full-length, A Soldier, A Saint, An Ocean Explorer. And, unlike lots of bands crafting a hodgepodge sound, Finn Riggins doesn't lose (or fail to create) an identity amid all its sound-tinkering and fun-having."
Amy McCullough- Willamette Week

Idaho-based Finn Riggins’ vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Lisa Simpson (no relation to Homer—bet she’s never heard that one before) echoes RM vocalist Caithlin De Marrais’s solid, crystal-clear delivery, right down to the simultaneously hollow and heavy quality that makes every line seem like both a directive and a white flag.
Salt Lake City Weekly

"Finn Riggins has all the elements that define the future of music.  The music is organic (man made) mixed with inorganic (computer generated).  It's socially responsible, energetic and dance friendly"
--Angela Jossy / Weekly Volcano / Olympia, WA

From musical hints of the Talking Heads to poetic lyrics, A Soldier, a Saint, an Ocean Explorer is a good natured audio voyage crafted by three well practiced muses. "
Richard Spann- Listen and Be Heard Weekly (Bay Area)

"The record evokes a sense of open space, despite Simpson's snarl and the ever present shambling of Bouiss’s wonderfully thick drums churning beneath sawtooth guitars and layered harmonies. The tracks on A Soldier A Saint An Ocean Explorer also bounce between lyrical density, like the galloping, country-fried “Pannin For Gold” and the sinister, groaning  “Glove Compartment.""
-Jessica Saurez - Paperthinwalls.com

Every track is a decidedly left turn into a futuristic pop abyss...evokes thoughts of a world wherein Eno produces Frank Zappa, and vice versa.
---Tom Semioli - Amplifier.com

A Soldier, A Saint, An Ocean Explorer is the band's first full-length release and, depending on how you look at it, might be a complete surprise. It's a collection of oscillating time signatures, rumbly drums, frenetic organ/keys and occasionally banal subject matter ("Glove Comprtment [sic]:" "I have a glove compartment / you got to love it, love it")
-Amy Atkin-Boise Weekly

[A Soldier, A Saint, An Ocean Explorer is a] "strange amalgam of oddball rhythms, uncommon chord progressions, head-banging pop-rock grit, and intelligent yet accessible songwriting. It’s a rare combination that combines the best of both worlds: hearty riffs for the rock set and enough compositional clout to keep the structuralists from grumbling o’ermuch... pop rock with chops..."

Finn Riggins is the result of a longtime collaboration between Cameron Bouiss, Eric Gilbert and Lisa Simpson.  Having met while completing their music degrees at University of Idaho, the trio began playing music together in 2000, an endeavor that would ultimately culminate in what is now Finn Riggins. In August of 2006, Bouiss, Gilbert and Simpson quit their jobs and moved to Sun Valley, Idaho to stitch together the outlines of what would soon become Finn Riggins at “the helibase” - a secret practice spot/tour launch pad.   Practices yielded shows, shows yielded tours and by the end of their first year as a group, Finn Riggins found themselves a nationally touring act who lived as much on the road as they did at home. With no end in site to the constant movement of this band, the odds are good they'll be coming to your town soon enough.
